झोला [Jhola]

Jhola by Krishna Dharabasi tells the moving story of a young widow in early 20th-century Nepal who is expected to die by the cruel Sati tradition — where widows were forced to burn themselves on their husband’s funeral pyre. The protagonist survives and struggles to protect her life and dignity in a society that refuses to accept her survival. The book highlights women’s oppression, resistance against harmful traditions, and a mother’s love. It has also been adapted into a well-known Nepali film with the same title.
